Trinity took the bold step in 2005 to build an entire neighborhood. We incorporated as a nonprofit in Mexico, purchased land outside of Juarez, and with our partner congregation Zion Lutheran Church of Tinley Park, Illinois, we completed building 19 homes on that property. We then helped some of the most impoverished families in Juarez by forgiving all the mortgage debt that was on the land, gifting the home and land in full. As a result of this experience, each family with a new home receives a tangible symbol of the faithfulness and unconditional love of Jesus Christ.
Even after building out the land, Trinity continues to travel once a year to Juarez to build 1 or 2 homes the weekend before Thanksgiving. The trip is Saturday – Tuesday each year. In addition, during the summer, every other year, Trinity sends a team to build in the Dominican Republic, also with Casas Por Cristo. To date, Trinity has built 55 homes! Trinity has had such a strong partnership with Casas Por Cristo that with support from Trinity members, upon Pastor Mark Twietmeyer’s retirement from Trinity in 2019, Casas named and dedicated the Mark and Lynn Twietmeyer Distribution Center in honor of Pastor Mark and Lynn’s contributions toward this life-changing ministry.
